CHAGRIN FALLS, Ohio — Charles A. King, formerly of 543 A St., Sharon, where he lived for more than 65 years, died peacefully at 11:15 a.m. Saturday, July 9, 2011, in Arden Courts, Chagrin Falls, where he had been a resident for the past three years. He was 99.
Mr. King was born Jan. 11, 1912, in Rimersburg, Pa., a son of John Wesley King and Christina Greenawalt King.
He was a member for more than 50 years of First Baptist Church, Sharon, and Free and Accepted Masons Shenango Valley Lodge 810, Hermitage.
Mr. King was employed as a foreman by several steel companies in the area but ended his career working for the Pennsylvania Welfare Department, retiring in 1984.
He was a graduate of East Brady (Pa.) High School and attended what is now Youngstown State University.
After retiring, he started swimming every day at the F.H. Buhl Club, Sharon, and bowling at Hickory Bowling Alley, Hermitage, continuing these activities well into his 90s.
He loved to travel and had visited 49 states and 37 countries with his wife, Ruth Painter King. In 2007, they celebrated their 73rd wedding anniversary before she passed away in December of that year.
Charles was an expert at fixing things and was the handyman for his family and neighborhood. He completely remodeled his 100-year old house, including digging out the basement with a pick, shovel and wheelbarrow. He helped out whenever and wherever he was needed and together with his wife, became caregivers of neighbors and relatives.
He is survived by: his daughter, Marcia Snavely Polyak and her husband Gregory Polyak, Chagrin Falls; a sister, Mary Corbett, Brady's Bend, Pa.; grandchildren, Ann Belding; Jeffrey Snavely and his wife Mary; Scott Snavely and his wife Teri; and Gregory King and his wife Dona; daughter-in-law, Barbara King; granddaughter-in-law, Tanya King; caregiver, Robert Belding; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Besides his wife, Charles was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Charles Larry King; grandson, Randal William King; two brothers, Arthur and George; and two sisters, Dorothy Housman and Betty Campbell.

Service: Celebration of life service at l:30 p.m. Thursday (7-14-11) in First Baptist Church, Sharon, with the Rev. John M. Trojak, pastor, officiating. Music will be provided by Marcia Snavely Polyak, his daughter, as organist; Andrea Anelli, soprano; and Charles' great-grandchildren.
