"He was associated with the golf industry through most of his working years starting as course manager at Coleman Country Club. He was an assistant to golf professional, Warren Smith at Oak Hills Country Club in San Antonio and later was the golf course superintendent there for 20 years. He was very active in the Central Texas Golf Course Superintendents Association and the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America. He was also in golf sales with Wilson Sporting Goods Co. and in golf course maintenance and equipment sales with Goldthwaite's of Texas.
"He was very proud of his family and through the years has enjoyed golf, hunting, fishing, sports – especially football - many kinds of music, dancing and travel, especially family "Great 8" trips.
"He is preceded in death by his parents, Raymond Wilson and Gladys Wilson Kelly; his step-father, Joe Kelly; his sister, Joyce Dillard; his step-brothers, Armand Kelly, Deward Kelly and Joe Neal Kelly.
"He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ruth; son Dr. Don Wilson and wife Carol of Abilene TX; daughter, Holly Teague and husband, Chris of Glen Carbon, IL; son, Scott Wilson and wife, Kara of Arlington TX; his grandchildren, Michael Scott, Stephen and Christy Wilson of Abilene, TX; Emily, Jacob and Wyatt Teague of Glen Carbon, IL and Collin, Ryan and Erin Wilson of Arlington, TX; his sister Jean Weinmann and husband Charlie of Copperas Cove, TX, his much loved uncle, Odell Geer of Belton, TX; as well as numerous extended family members and friends.
"A memorial service was held on Monday, December 7, 2009, at 2:00 P.M. at Western Hills Christian Church, 8535 Huebner Rd., San Antonio, TX 78240 with Rev. Rusty Wright presiding. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Western Hills Christian Church Memorial Fund at the above address or to the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, P.O. Box 4486 Houston, TX 77210, please designate "Melanoma Research."
