TRINITY – Services for Alton Odell Cannon, 77, were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 4, 2007, in the Waller-Thornton Funeral Home with the Rev. Thurman Cannon officiating.
Burial followed with military honors and Masonic Last Burial Rites in the Cedar Grove Cemetery in Trinity.
Mr. Cannon died Thursday, March 1, in the Veterans Administration Hospital in Houston.
He was born Oct. 25, 1929, in Lovelady. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was awarded the Korean Service Medal with two bronze stars.
Mr. Cannon was the owner/operator of Cannon's Barber Shop for many years and was a lifetime member of the Trinity County Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6899 in Trinity.
He also was an active member of the Joe Werner Masonic Lodge #553 AF & AM of Trinity. He served as the lodge's worshipful master in 1975 and as tiler for more than 20 years.
Mr. Cannon was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Laura Cannon; a daughter, Susan Moore; and a grandson, Ryan Moore.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Edith Cannon; a daughter and her spouse, Terri and Gary Fields; brothers and sisters as well as their spouses, Morris Cannon, Margaret and Walter Lyons, Syble Vanderpool and Jim Perry, and Joy and Billy Hinson; two grandsons, Bobby A. Fields and Steven A. Fields; and a number of other relatives.
Waller-Thornton Funeral Home of Trinity directed the arrangements.
