Elizabeth J. Brieman
JUNEAU-God called home His child Elizabeth J. Brieman on Monday, Jan. 11, 2010, at the age of 85.
Elizabeth was born the daughter of William T. and Marie P. (Yagodzinski) Gahlman on Feb. 29, 1924 in Beaver Dam. She was married to Harold C. Brieman on Nov. 30, 1946, in Juneau. Elizabeth was a graduate of Juneau High School and of UW-Oshkosh.
Over 40 years, by touching the lives of thousands of students, Elizabeth left her mark. Elizabeth was a dedicated and enthusiastic English instructor, who served as head to the English Department at Dodgeland High School. During her decades of service, she was coach of the forensic, mock trial and debate teams, encouraging participation by all, and actively recruiting students who she thought showed promise. After retirement, she continued her dedication to education by tutoring students well into her 70s.
Elizabeth was an active member of Sacred Heart Parish in Horicon, and volunteered for fundraisers. She thoroughly enjoyed the challenge of playing bridge, and more so, she relished all of the wonderful people that she was honored to play with and know. Elizabeth was also a huge inspiration to her grandchildren. She touched their lives and encouraged them in many ways. She will be missed by her family and friends.
Elizabeth is survived by her loving and devoted husband Harold of Juneau; her children: Dr. Mark (Cheryl) Brieman of Fox Lake, Barbara (Dr. Art) Rein of Waterford, and Kay Nell of Ripon; 10 grandchildren: Drew (Petra) Brieman, Tara Brieman, Chase (Stacy) Brieman, Cole Brieman, Chelsea Brieman, Rebecca Weidmeyer, Renee Weidmeyer, Kimberly Weidmeyer, Kerri Weidmeyer, and Tricia Nell, one great grandchild and many loving and supportive in-laws, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers William, Donald and Fred and one sister in infancy Mary Joan.
A private Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, at Sacred Heart Catholic Parish in Horicon with the Rev. Mike Petrie officiating.
Memorials may be directed to Sacred Heart Catholic Parish in Horicon.
