FRANCIS (TURK) KENNELLY
Francis Ambrose Kennelly, age 60, of rural Menahga, Minnesota, departed this earth with grace and dignity February 28, 2002, at the Freedom Plaza Hospice Center in Sun City, Arizona.
Turk was born to Thomas Ambrose Kennelly and Nellie Isabelle (Gadbois) Kennelly on March 31, 1941, at the St. Francis Hospital in Shakopee, Minnesota. After graduating from high school in Buffalo, Minnesota, he enlisted in the United States Army and served his country from 1960 until 1963, including a tour of duty in Germany. He was united in marriage May 27, 1961, in Livingston Manor, New York, to Dorothy Funk, who was also serving in the Armed Forces. After living in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area and then Portland, Oregon, Turk and family returned to Minnesota and settled in Huntersville. He worked at various jobs while starting Huntersville Canoe Outfitters and then Huntersville Wood Products. Turk enjoyed hunting, camping, canoeing, and horseback riding. He was a member of the Wadena County Mounted Sheriff’s Posse and he was also learning to fly airplanes. He found pleasure in most outdoor activities, but his favorite was riding his Harley.
Turk is survived by his wife Dorothy Kennelly of Huntersville, one daughter, Ramona Roth of Buckman, Minnesota; one son, Lance Kennelly of Huntersville; seven grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews, many in-laws and beloved friends. He is preceded in death by his parents and both of his brothers, Thomas O. Kennelly and Robert Kennelly.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2002, at 11:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Sebeka, with Reverend Loren Ferch officiating. Organist will be Jayne Koskiniemi and congregational hymns will be “Swing Low Sweet Chariot,” “I’ll Fly Away” and “Amazing Grace.” Soloist will be Edric Funk, he will sing “Go Rest High On That Mountain,” “Mansion Over The Hilltop” and “Wonderful Cross.” Military Honors will be provided by Berg-Nyland American Legion Post 456 of Sebeka. Arrangements by Cardini-Behrens Funeral Homes of Sebeka and Menahga.
