HIT BY GRAVEL TRUCK; DIED OF INJURIES
Giles Osgerby, 78 Years Old, Hurt Near Hale, Last Saturday
Giles Osgerby was struck by a gravel truck near Hale last Saturday and died later in Omer hospital where he was taken soon after the accident. Mr. Osgerby, who was 78 years of age, was a brother of J.K. Osgerby of this city, and had been stopping here for a time. Having friends at Hale, he had gone there for a short visit. His friends lived a distance from the mail route, and Mr. Osgerby volunteered to walk down to the mail box for them. The driver of an automobile overtook him and offered him a ride, which he declined as the distance he was to travel was not far. Directly in the rear of the car was an oncoming gravel truck and, it is believed, the aged gentleman became confused when the truck driver sounded the horn, and he stepped into the path of the truck.
A coroner's jury was impaneled, and after hearing all testimony, gave a verdict of death due to an unavoidable accident.
Mr. Osgerby was born in Richland, Iowa. He had lived, however, in Tuscola County, Michigan, for many years. He was a widower.
Funeral services were held Tuesday in the home of Mr. and Mrs. J.K. Osgerby, with Rev. W. A. Gregory officiating; and the body was taken to Fairgrove cemetery for burial.
