OTTAWA- George E. Lister, president of the People's National Bank here and immediate past president of the Kansas Bankers Assn., died of an apparent heart attack Monday. He was 55.
He became ill in the bank's parking lot and was taken to an Ottawa hospital and later transferred to a Kansas City hospital where he died.
Lister formerly was president of the Missouri Valley Flood Control Assn. and a past chairman of the Kansas Industrial Commission, now the State Economic Development Dept.
At the time of his death he was president of the Ottawa Industrial Development Corp., a local redevelopment organization.
He had been president of the Ottawa bank since 1953. In 1969 he was elected president of the Kansas Bankers Assn. during its annual convention in Topeka.
His wife, Charlene,of the home survives.
The couple was active in church work of the First Baptist Church in Ottawa for many years.
He also is survived by a son, Edmund J. Lister, and two daughters, Mrs. Lloyd Ericsson, Portland, Ore., and Mrs. Ed Martin, Panama City in the Canal Zone.
Services wil be at 11 am Friday in the First Baptist Church, Ottawa. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery. The family has asked memorial contributions to the George E. Lister memorial Fund at the Ottawa University in lieu of flowers.
Damron-Towner Funeral Home, Ottawa, is in charge of funeral arrangements.
