Before enlisting he worked as a boatman. Charles was 20 years of age, stood 5'6 had dark hair, gray eyes and a fair complexion.
He was Killed in Action at Weldon Railroad, Virginia 19 August 1864. Originally buried at Meade Station reinterred at Poplar Grove National Cemetery at Petersburg, VA.
