Charles (C. And.) arrived in New York City, NY on Sep 6, 1851 aboard the Galenia with his mother and brothers.


A resident of Berks County Charles enlisted in Company C. 50th PA Volunteer Infantry on 22 February 1864 and was mustered into federal service in Reading, PA on that date.


Before enlisting he worked as a boatman. Charles was 20 years of age, stood 5'6 had dark hair, gray eyes and a fair complexion.


He was Killed in Action at Weldon Railroad, Virginia 19 August 1864. Originally buried at Meade Station reinterred at Poplar Grove National Cemetery at Petersburg, VA.
