Rev. MacMaster was a minister at the Poland Presbyterian Church from 1854 to 1878. There is a large stained glass window in the church dedicated to him. He and his brother, Erasmus Darwin MacMaster,(also a minister) were sons of the Presbyterian minister, Rev. Gilbert MacMaster.
According to a history of the church written in 1952, "Dr. MacMaster was of Scotch-Irish descent, born in 1802, the year the church was founded. Educated at Union College, Schenectady, upon graduatinh he taught in a private school for boys. Later he preached in New York and Pittsburgh, leaving the latter city when he thought his wife's health would benefit from country life. he took the Westfield charge, and from there was called to Poland.... his was the longest pastorate of the church, and one of its most successful."
The family resided at 21 Center Road, now Riverside Drive.
