Memorial services for Sarah Jane Shnell, 65, Broken Arrow, Okla., will be noon Saturday at the Church of Christ in Broken Arrow.
Mrs. Shnell died Friday, June 6, 1997, at her home.
She was born Nov. 30, 1931, in Checotah, Okla., the daughter of Thomas Guy and Mary (Wood) Brandon.
She received an undergraduate degree in education at Northeastern State College in Tahlequah, Okla., and a master's degree in counseling at Kansas University.
She lived in several locations, including Kansas, as she traveled with her husband's work.
She was involved in the Women's Prison Ministry of the local church of Christ.
She was guest lecturer at numerous women's meetings, retreats and seminars in Oklahoma, Kansas and other states for church of Christ groups.
Her volunteer work included various church activities and teaching, memberships in women's associations promoting Christian schools and colleges, and Girl Scouts of America.
She initiated efforts to gather clothing and supplies for needy in Africa after visiting a missionary there. She also participated in a mission campaign to Thailand.
On Dec. 19, 1953, she married Gene J. Shnell in Bartlesville, Okla. He survives of the home.
Other survivors include three daughters, Mary Beth Petr, Lawrence, Donna Goforth, Richmond, Tex., and Peggy Hope, St. Louis; two sisters, Maxine Wood Cloud, Owasso, Okla., and Ida Thompson, Checotah, Okla.; and nine grandchildren.
