February 25, 1994-MAE WILLIAMS, 93; enjoyed politics
Mae Hudson Williams, 93, of Broomall, a homemaker who was interested in politics and who supported children's camping, died last Friday at Central Park Lodge in Broomall.
Mrs. Williams, a native of Philadelphia, had lived in Delaware County for the last 55 years and was a longtime contributor to the Media Fellowship House. The nondenominational organization promotes a community without prejudice through programs and speakers.
In 1984, the Fellowship House honored Mrs. Williams at a luncheon and presented her with an award for her support of the organization and contributions to its summer camp for children.
While growing up in Philadelphia, Mrs. Williams attended Friends Select School and then attended finishing school.
In 1938, she moved from Philadelphia to Delaware County, first living in Drexel Hill for 15 years, then in Newtown Square for 15 years and in Broomall for the last 25 years.
Her husband of 54 years, David Williams, died in the mid-1970's. With a son in the Navy during World War II, Mrs. Williams became a volunteer with the American Red Cross in Delaware County. Her son, David Williams Jr., died in the mid-1960's. (sic)
Mrs. Williams was interested in politics and frequently wrote or called legislators in Washington on issues, said a niece, Ruby Hays. She spoke regularly to former Arkansas Sen. J. William Fullbright, Hays said. Fullbright, a Democrat, headed the Senate Foreign Relations Committee from 1954 until 1974 and was against the Vietnam War.
Mrs. Williams also enjoyed reading and gardening and read the Congressional Directory, her niece said.
She is survived by a daughter, Mary Jane Flores; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren, and a great-great granddaughter.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. tomorrow at the Frank C.Videon Funeral Home, Sproul and Lawrence Roads, Broomall. Relative and friends may call at the funeral home after 10:30 a.m. Burial will be at Arlington Cemetery in Drexel Hill.
