Sarah Jane Hayes Williams Peterson, 94, a life-long resident of Philadelphia, died Monday after a long illness at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold.
One of eight children of the late John Campbell Williams and the late Mary Jane Jackson Williams of Philadelphia, she was a graduate of Brown Preparatory School and was a former head bookkeeper for the Welfare Federation (forerunner of Delaware Valley United Way) for close to 20 years. She also was a former professional soloist for several Philadelphia area churches.
Widow of the late John Victor Peterson, who passed away in 1991, she is survived by a daughter, Ruth Peterson Luse, managing editor of the Hopewell Valley News; a grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Jon Robert and Yvonne Susan Luse of Hopewell Township; a sister Martha W. Brown of Philadelphia; a brother Herbert Williams of Aldan, Pa.; two great-granddaughters, Morganne Y. and Victoria A. of Hopewell Township; and many nieces and nephews.
Family funeral services will be held Friday at Fyfe & Miller Funeral Directors, Mt. Airy, Philadelphia. A nephew, the Rev. Clyde L. Mellinger Jr. of Orient Point, L.I., will officiate.
Interment will be Friday at West Laurel Hill Cemetery, Bala Cynwyd, Pa.
