Monsignor Sebastian Kräuter was the Bishop of the Diocese of Timişoara in Romania between 1990 and 1999.
Sebastian Kräuter was born on December 22, 1922, in Nitzkydorf, Banat, as the son of businessman Balthasar Kräuter and his wife Katharina. His brother, Dr. Theol. Franz Kräuter was for many years the Archivist of the named Diocese of Timişoara. His father's ancestors came from the Palatine Hauenstein and migrated in the Eighteenth Century to Banat.
Kräuter attended Elementary School in Nitzkydorf and later studied Philosophy and Theology at the Diocesan Seminary of Timişoara. He was ordained to the Priesthood on June 2, 1946, at the Temeswarer Dom by Bishop Augustin Pacha. Between 1946 and 1964, he served as Curate at the Faire Parish, and in 1983, became the Pastor of the Community.
Aged 67, he was named Bishop of the Diocese of Timişoara, receiving his Episcopal Consecration on April 28, 1990, from Cardinal Angelo Sodano, assisted by Archbishops Adalbert Boros and Lajos Bálint. He was the Co - Editor and Author of the foreword of the 1995 biography of his Predecessor, Augustin Pacha "Erinnerungen an Bischof Pacha: Ein Stück Banater Heimatgeschichte". Kräuter retired from Office on June 24, 1999, and was succeeded by Msgr. Martin Roos.
Kräuter died on Tuesday, January 29, 2008, aged 85, and was buried on February 1, in the Crypt of the Temeswarer Domes.
