Dom Elmar Rupert Kimmel OSB., was born on February 24, 1914, in Hübschenried, within the Diocese of Augsburg, Germany, and made his Monastic Profession as a Benedictine Monk of the Abbey of St. Ottilien on May 11, 1935.
Ordained to the Priesthood on December 31, 1939, he was assigned as a Missionary to Inkamana, South Africa, on October 10, 1954, where he served among others as Assistant Parish Priest of Mbongolwane, and later as Parish Priest of Amatikulu, Mandeni, Mangete, the Cathedral Parish of Eshowe, and Empangeni.
Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of Eshowe from 1973 till 1975, he was elected as the Second Conventual Prior of Inkamana's Priory on July 10, 1975, an Office he held until August 15, 1978.
Kimmel went on serving as Parish Priest of Twasana and Nandi, a post he held until his demise, which occurred on July 8, 1980, in Nkandla.
