The Rev. Garcia, born Nov. 12, 1924, in Ecuador, was ordained an Augustinian priest on Dec. 20, 1969. He earned a bachelor's degree in 1966 and completed his theological studies at Tolentine College in Olympia Fields.
After his ordination, the Rev. Garcia served as a parish priest in Ecuador until 1982, when he returned to Chicago.
He served at Our Lady of Grace Parish, at Maternity B.V.M. Parish and at Epiphany Parish, Chicago. He also was a part-time chaplain at St. Anthony Hospital.
In 1987, the Rev. Garcia officially transferred to the Augustinian Province of the Midwestern United States and resided in the Augustinian community of St. Rita of Cascia Parish in Chicago. He was appointed associate pastor of St. Rita in 1988.
The Rev. Garcia retired in 2001. In 2005, he was assigned to the assisted living program at St. Nicholas of Tolentine Monastery, Olympia Fields.

Burial will be at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Alsip,Il.
