L'Abbé Bonpain was a member of the French Resistance during the Second World War.
Born in Dunkerque, Bonpain was ordained the Priesthood on June 29, 1932, and joined the Resistance in 1939.
Arrested by the Nazis at the Vicar House of Rue Pasteur 19, he was executed by firing squad together with 65 other resistance fighters between March 17 and May 1, 1943, at Bondues.
He was posthumously decorated as Chevalier of the Legion of Honor, the Croix de Guerre, Medal of the Resistance and appointed to the rank of Lieutenant.
Several schools, colleges and street across France are named after L'Abbé Bonpain.
