Monsignor François Gourguillon was born in Paris, France, on May 3, 1928, and after undergoing studies in Engineering at the Ecole d'Ingénieur de Châlons-en-Champagne, he entered the Grand Seminary of Reims, being ordained to the Priesthood at the age of 27, on December 17, 1955, in Reims.
Named Prefect of the Institution St-Remi de Charleville on August 18, 1956, Gourguillon served furthermore as Professor at the named Institution, Aumônier of the MCC for the Northern District of the Diocese, Envoy for the Sector of Charleville-Mézières, Responsible for the Pastoral Unity of Saint-Remi - Sacré-Cœur de Charleville, Member of the College of Consulters of Reims's Archdiocese and Pastor of the d'Aiglemont District.
Aged 63, he was appointed as Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Reims, receiving his Episcopal Consecration with the Titular See of Suas, on January 26, 1992, in Charleville, from Archbishop Jean Marie Julien Balland, Future Cardinals, assisted by Archbishops Jacques-Eugène-Louis Ménager and André Jean René Lacrampe, Ist. del Prado.
During his Episcopate, Msgr. Gourguillon served as Vicar General of the Archdiocese and Coordinator of the Industrial Zone of Ardennes, as Auxiliary to Archbishops Balland, Defois and Jordan, and twice as Apostolic Administrator of the Vacant See.
The Bishop resigned his Office at the age of 74, on January 21, 2003, and died on Friday, November 23, 2007, aged 79.
