Born in Sarepta, Louisiana to Monroe and Camille Smith, she lived in Lumberton where she was a homemaker.
Survivors include her sons, Dana Dean and his wife Dorothy and Donnie Dean and his wife Billie; seven grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; sisters, Ernestine Pickard, Roberta Osborne, Betty Carruth, and Joyce Henson; and brother, Reed Smith.
Julia was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Preston Dean and her parents.
