John E. Warnke, 71, a long time resident of Grandview Heights (Columbus) Ohio, passed from this earth on June 3, 2010. John was the husband of Joann Warnke and they enjoyed a marriage of 46 years before Joann's sudden passing.

John is survived by his four daughters, Marta Durban (Lee), Pamela Frame (Rob), Angela Maxwell (David), and Tonya Warnke. His grandchildren, Christopher and Monica Durban, Madison Frame, John Max Maxwell, Wyatt and Chloe Hunter, brought John much joy with their sense of humor. How he loved watching them grow! John is also survived by his sister Joan Coward, and sister-in-laws, Jeanine Provencal (Cliff), Janice Wheeler (Richard), and Jeanette McKenzie and many nieces and nephews.

John received his degree in Philosophy from Marshall University. His love for Marshall would often bring him back to visit the campus with his life-long college buddy, Tom Lowe. John's professional career was in the financial industry and he was a long-time employee, and retiree, of Bank One.

John's other passion was golf and he was a long-time member of Heritage Golf Club. He loved golfing with his buddies, laughing and sharing stories. He was also an amazing tennis player and taught the love of the sport to his daughters. John's daughters knew they were deeply loved and respected. He would often voice his love and how proud he was of each daughters' personal successes in life.

He relished the fact he was instrumental in raising strong women and expressed comfort knowing his daughters had loving spouses and created loving families. In John's own words, "I think of how good my life has been. A skinny little kid from South Charleston, West Virginia, immature, unaware, and who has had a wonderful life. I had a loving and understanding wife. I have been to places I could only dream about. I have met people and made friends that I will cherish forever.

But most of all I am so proud of the four young ladies who are strong individuals, love life and love me. That is a successful life". John fought a very brave battle with cancer and we must take comfort in knowing he is free and with Joann in Heaven. As his friend Lou LaRowe stated, "We lost a friend, but the world lost a gentleman!". So true. John's memorial celebration will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 19th at the Heritage Golf Club, 3525 Heritage Club Drive, Hilliard, OH. Dr, Wayne Nicholson officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.

The family would like to thank OhioHealth's HomeReach Hospice and the Kobacker House for their amazing care and kindness and Dr. Wayne Nicholson, Senior Pastor of Lane Avenue Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting that donations be made in honor of John Warnke to the Grandview Senior Center Building Fund, 1515 W. Goodale Blvd., Columbus, 43212.
