Officer Lawrence L. Dorsey was a member of the Metropolitan Police Department in Washington, DC.

On January 27, 1968 at approximately 1:30 am, Officer Dorsey of the Fourteenth Precinct, responded to Eastern Carryout Shop for a man with a sawed-off shotgun. Upon Officer Dorsey's arrival he found a man with the shotgun and ordered him to drop the weapon. The suspect did drop the weapon. As Officer Dorsey attempted to arrest the suspect, he picked up the shotgun which unexpectedly discharged striking him twice in the body.
Officer Dorsey died a few days later at Prince Georges General Hospital from his injuries. Arrested in connection with this incident was Andrew Douglas, 53, of 7205 Booker Street Seat Pleasant, Maryland. Mr. Douglas was charged with Possession of a Prohibited Weapon.
Officer Dorsey was 28 years old at the time of his death and resided at 1500 19th Street SE with his wife and two children.
