Officer Preston E. Bradley was a member of the Metropolitan Police Department in Washington, DC.

Date of Death: February 21, 1921
Rank: Officer Peston was initially appointed to the department on May 21, 1917, and resigned on May 1, 1918. He was reappointed to the department on July 16, 1919.

Circumstance: On February 20, 1921, at 11:15 pm, Officers Bradley, of 416 F Street NE, and Frayne were directing traffic at 7th and M Streets, NW when they observed a vehicle, being driven by Mr. Norman O. Houghton, coming towards them. The vehicle was weaving back and forth. When they attempted to stop the vehicle, the vehicle would not stop. Both officers jumped onto the running boards of the vehicle, one officer on each side. The vehicle accelerated to the intersection of 7th and O Streets, NW where it struck a street car, causing Officer Bradley to be crushed between the two vehicles. Both suspects were arrested on the scene Officer Bradley suffered two broken legs and died from internal injuries.

Officer Bradley was survived by his extended family of the home at 644 B Street, Washington, DC. They included, his Father-in-Law, Henry Hoffman, 68 years old; his Mother-in-Law, Laura, 59 years old; his Brother-in-Law, Edward, 26 years old; his Sister-in-Law, Mary 22 years old and his wife, Gertrude, 28 years old.

On October 3, 1921, Mr. Houghton was indicted for Manslaughter.

Mrs. Preston Bradley was granted a widows pension of $35.00 per month for life.
