William Ervin Butram/Bertram was the son of Elijah and Camillia (Miller) Butram of Wayne Co., Kentucky and Overton Co., Tennessee. Both parents died in 1859 in Overton Co., Tennessee before the Civil War but it is not known where they were buried.

William Ervin's brother, George W. Butram, served with him in the Confederate Army during the Civil War, D Company, 25th Infantry, and died in the Battle of Chickamauga in Walker Co., Georgia. See George's Find-A-Grave Memorial Page #135013571.

Corporal William Ervin Butram/Bertram died in the Union prison at Elmira, New York. His descendants spell the surname BERTRAM as do their kin in Wayne Co., Kentucky.
