Adele Mae McHale, 95, a resident of The Dalles, died at home Tuesday, Oct.
She was born Feb. 17, 1916, in Prairie City, Ore., to Cal and Mildred (Ferry) Collier. She came to The Dalles in 1923 where she graduated from The Dalles High School in 1934. In high school she was active as one of The Dalles High Booster Girls.
In 1936 she married James E. McHale and they had three children. They joined The Dalles Country Club, where she became an avid golfer. Her husband died in 1975.
She worked as an executive secretary for Pacific Power & Light for 10 years.
She moved to Salem, Ore., in 1965, where she worked as the s tate medical records librarian until her retirement in 1978.
She loved to travel, and one of her favorite memories was the trip she took to visit her brother Frank and his wife Marilyn in India.
She moved back to The Dalles in 1998, where she lived until her death.
She is survived by her daughter, Pamela McHale-Todd and husband Carl; son Ron McHale and wife Sonja; sister, Margaret Shafer Cooley; six grandchildren, Linda (McHale) Urness and husband John; David McHale and wife Maria; Daniel McHale and wife Mindy; Chris Blanchat; Kathy (Blanchat) Rolen; and Jeff Blanchat; several great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Sharlene Blanchat; parents Joseph and Mildred Shafer; sister Eileen Hall; and two brothers, Willis Shafer and Francis Shafer.
A memorial service is set for Tuesday, Oct. 11, at 1:30 p.m. at Spencer, Libby & Powell Funeral Home, with a reception at Cousin's to follow.
Memorial contributions may be made to Home at Last or a charity of choice.
