ALEXANDRIA- A former mayor of Alexandria and former Madison County commissioner, Guy C. Lewis, 70, 402 W. Tyler, was dead upon arrival Tuesday morning at Communtiy Hospital following a coronary attack.
Prior to his retirement which was due to ill health eight years ago, he had been a real estate broker and farmer.
Mayor of Alexandria from 1948 to 1952 and from 1960 until 1964, he served on the board of Madison County commissioners from 1956 to 1959. He was also a member of Our Blessed Saviour Lutheran Church and the Monroe Township Democrats.
Surviving are the wife, Phala; two sons, Paul (Elizabeth) Lewis, of Alexandria, and Richard (Judy) of Waverly, Ohio; one daughter, Patricia (Richard) Esmon, of Indianapolis; one brother, Earl Lewis, of Alexandria; and a sister, Beaulah (Willis) Marlow, Alexandria; nine grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at the Noffze Funeral Home with the Rev. Roger Forbe and the Rev. E.F. Lorenz co-officiating. Interment will be in Jones Cemetery at Yorktown.
Friends may call at the mortuary after 2 p.m. today.
