Sgt. Everett Stone Gilbert LINDQUIST, Service Number 282728, was a member of K
Company, 3rd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division.
He was killed in action at Tarawa, on the first day of the battle -- 20 NOV
Most likely he was killed during the landing of his battalion on Red Beach
Three, which began at 11:30 AM, 20 NOV 1943.
He was initially buried in a temporary cemetery on Tarawa (Betio Island) --
known as Cemetery 26, in Row A, Grave 15.
Later he was moved to Lone Palm Cemetery (also on Betio) and reburied in Plot 1,
Row 1, Grave 11.
In 1946 his remains were disinterred and identified on Betio Island, Tarawa
Atoll, by the 604th AGRS (Army Graves Registration Service) and presumably
returned to his family for burial sometime after that.
