John Baggett
Rites Today

Funeral for John M. Baggett, 82, will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday at Elliott's Chapel of Memories, with Dr. Elwin Skiles, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating.
Burial will be in Elmwood Memorial Park.
Mr. Baggett died at his home at 925 Mulberry St. at 8 p.m. Wednesday. He was maintenance repairman for Hardin Simmons University until retirement a short time ago. A longtime cowboy, he was a charter member of the Texas Cowboy Reunion at Stamford.
Born in Little Rock, ark., he moved to Archer County with his parents at the age of 1. He married Pearl Owen on Oct. 22, 1905, in Archer County and moved to Abilene in 1923.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, S. Nelson of Abilene, Otis of Corpus Christi, and Owen J. of Denver, Colo.; one daughter, Mary, of the home; one brother, Guy M. of Archer City; one sister, Mrs. Lula Newcomb of Spearmam; one grandchild.
Pallbearers will be Morris Oliver, Olon Dunlap, Ernest Harber, O. S. Lowry, Alex Edwards, Dallas Murphy, all of Abilene, and Gerry Walker of Midland.
Honorary pallbearers are the Men's Bible Class at the First Baptist Church, Dr. W. B. Adamson, Dr. W. D. Bond, Dr. Truelt Walton, Dr. M. A. Jenkens, and all old friends.

John Middleton Baggett and Green Baggett opened the first convenience store in Graham in 1916. J.M. Baggett owned the store until 1923 when the family moved to Abilene. Baggett owned the Union Wagon Yard and Grocery Store on North Elm.
