Lester Drew Stowell Sr(LtCol USAF) , was born Oct 16,1918 to Don Dewey and Florence Isobel (Drew) Stowell. I was just recently told that he made his grand arrival in an apartment in Houghton Hancock, MI.
Lester was one of the fortunate survivors of the horrific Bath School Bombing, He was in 3rd grade at the time and sustained multiple injuries but by the grace of God his life was spared that day.He would grow up to become a defender of our nation joining the United States Airforce. He fought in WWII, with 12 search and rescue missions. It seems his whole life Lester fought and won against the odds.
On June 7 1941 he married Betty Jane Wilcox in Lansing, MI.She was the daughter of Willard M and Clara Wischnewski Je.
The couple moved all around the world following Lester's career in the AirForce. Throughout his career three children were born each in a different State. Lester Jr(Drew), when stationed in Alaska, Jane Ellen made her appearance in Colorado,, and moving down south further Miss Patricia Ann(Patti) was born in Mississippi. Upon retiring the family moved to Crystal MI in 1965 where the Stowell's lived out the rest of their lives. He took to such rolls as a business owner(Crystal Hardware) and Crystal Township Supervisor.Lester was also an avid Hamm Radio enthusiast spending hours chatting along the airwaves with old and new friends alike. He still held tight to his love of flying. At age 75 he still was a licensed pilot.A member of the Quiet Birdmen of Lansing.
My grandfather was a man of few words but his actions spoke millions. He was my rock, my hero.
