John Wilmer Evans
Reading native John Wilmer Evans of Howard died Sunday, Aug. 30, 2009, at the Greenwood County Hospital in Eureka. He was 82.
Mr. Evans was a self-employed logger.
The son of Llewelyn T. and Johanna Moore Evans, he was born Aug. 30, 1927, at Reading. He married Peggy J. VanNote on July 1952, at Eureka Springs, Ark. She survives.
Mr. Evans is also survived by five sons, David Evans and Lloyd Evans, both of Howard, Gary Evans of Wichita, John Wesley Evans of Joplin, Mo., and Kevin Evans of Branson, Mo.; one sister, Alice Summerfield of Muskogee, Okla.; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Two sister, Barbara Pechin and Kathryn Curlee died earlier.
The family will have an informal memorial service at the Cox Building (east room) in Howard receiving friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. Mr. Evans was cremated.
