Grover L. Scrutchfield
Grover L. Scrutchfield, 69 year old Hale resident, died Saturday evening at his home. He was a master mechanic and retired from Trans World Airlines.
Mr. Scrutchfield was born February 5, 1917 in Holden, a son of Thomas Charles and Emma Mae Hayes Scrutchfield. In 1937 he graduated from Garden City, Missouri High School and served in World War II, in the Merchant Marines for six months.
He married Shirley Reed January 2, 1965 in Chickasaw, Oklahoma. They resided in Excelsior Springs for years, moving to Hale in 1977. He was a member of the Hale Baptist Church.
While at TWA he spent time in Saudi Arabia, three years in England. He was with TWA 30 years before his retirement in 1974 due to health reasons.
Surviving are his wife, Shirley of the home; three sons, David L. Scrutchfield, Eldorado Springs; Edward D. Scrutchfield, Blue Springs, and Thomas J. Scruthfield, with the Air Force stationed in West Germany; a daughter Lee Ann Scrutchfield, Liberty; four step-sons, James W. Reed, Greenridge; George O. Reed, Liberty, and William C. Reed, Ionia; a sister, Lola Beadles, Blue Spring, and six step-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; a brother, and a sister.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Hale Baptist Church with the Reverend Rod Taylor officiating. Burial was in the Garden City cemetery, Garden City, Missouri. Memorials were in the Hale Baptist Church.
Music selections were by Cindy Berryman and Bob Mattox. The songs sang were "How Great Thou Art", "One Day At A Time", and "His Eye Is On The Sparrow".
Pallbearers were Ivan Peters, Gale Lightle, Estil Hunt, John Summers, Bob Mattox and Wayne Hensley.
