COUNCIL GROVE -- Johanna McPeek, 98, Council Grove, died Monday, Feb. 22, 1999, at a Howard nursing home.
Mrs. McPeek was chief operator for the telephone company in Dwight for 11 years, and she later worked for the Dwight Locker Plant.
She was born April 8, 1900, in Osage County, the daughter of Francis M. and Mary Ellen Henry Moore. She attended school in Arvonia. She lived on a farm north of Dunlap from 1968 to 1971. Mrs. McPeek was a member of the Methodist Church, the Order of the Eastern Star, No. 269 Squadron Auxiliary, World War I Auxiliary and the American Legion auxiliary.
She married Llewelyn Thomas Evans in 1919 in Emporia. He died in 1954. She married George R. Lighthall in 1965. He preceded her in death. She married Oscar H. McPeek in 1968. He preceded her in death.
Mrs. McPeek also was preceded in death by two daughters, Kathryn Curlee and Barbara Pechin.
Survivors include a daughter, Alice Summerfield, Jay, Okla.; a son, John Evans, Howard; a stepdaughter, Mary Crockett, Lower Lake, Calif.; a stepson, George Lighthall, Dwight; 15 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Jones VanArsdale Funeral Home in Lebo.
Burial will be in Reading Cemetery.
Relatives and friends will meet from 1 p.m. to service time Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Morris County Hospital in Council Grove and sent in care of the funeral home.
