Gerhard Walter Wander was besides a Wehrmacht officer also an attorney. He was stationed in the Netherlands and was an aid of Hans-Georg Calmeyer.
Gerhard Walter was born in Escherninken,and was attorney with Generalkommissariat für Verwaltung und Justiz. He helped Jews and the Dutch resistance with papers and intelligence. He deserted form the German Forces and joined the Dutch Resistance. He was shot when attempting to escape arrest in Amsterdam. Gerhard was buried January 27nd,1945 at Nieuwe Oosterbegraafplaats Amsterdam without gravemarker. (Plot 84-79). Reburied March 17th,1948 at the German Warcemetery Ysselsteyn, the Netherlands. (Plot CV-1-20) Reburied May 15th,1962 at the Dutch Honor Cemetery in Loenen, the Netherlands. (Plot C-167).
Righteous Commemorated with the Yad Vashem Tree of Honor. Date of Recognition: January 23th,1975.
