The following obituary appeared in the LaSalle News Tribune shortly after his death in 1986:
DANIEL ELLERBROCK; FORMER SERGEANT IN ARMY RANGERS--
Daniel B. Ellerbrock, 54, of 602 Johnson St., Newark, formerly of Peru, died unexpectedly at 12:15
a.m. Sunday at Illinois Valley Community Hospital shortly after arriving. Services will be at 9:30
a.m. Wednesday to the Mueller Funeral Home, Peru, and at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph's Catholic
Church, Peru. The Rev. Placid Hatfield, OSB, will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery,
with military graveside rites by the Peru Veterans Memorial Group. Visitation will be 4 - 9 p.m.
Tuesday in the funeral home, with a ?? service at 7 p.m. Mr. Ellerbrock was born November 30,
1931 in Ladd to Al and Gertrude Maurer Ellerbrock. He was employed at Caterpillar Tractor Co., in
Montgomery for 16 years. He served in the Army during the Korean conflict as a master sergeant
in the Rangers. He married Mardell Jones on April 24, 1954. He was a member of the Newark
American Legion. Survivors include his wife, Mardell, three sons, Chief Petty Officer Daniel
Ellerbrock, serving with the Navy aboard the submarine USS Phoenix in the Mediterranean, and
David and Dale of Peru, two daughters, Mary Ellerbrock with the Navy in Norfolk, Virginia; three
grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Harry (Judi) Nichols of Newark.
