Joseph E. "Ned" Brunk, 75, of Malabar Lane, Mansfield, died Wednesday afternoon May 1, 2002 in SCCI Hospital, Mansfield following a three-month illness.
He was born May 22, 1926 in Shelby to Gustave Herman and Anna Leah (Fernyak) Brunk, was graduated from Mansfield Senior High School in 1944, and earned his Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Kentucky in 1950.
A WWII Army veteran, Joe served with the 605th Tank Destroyer Battalion in the European Theater.
He retired in 1988 as an engineering manager with the Tappan Company following 38 years of service, and was a member of the Tappan Quarter Century Club.
Joe was baptized at age fourteen and became a member of Central United Methodist Church in 1941. His church family was an integral part of his social circle and focus.
Though he was transferred to Montreal, Canada for five years and Murray, Kentucky for seven years, he considered Mansfield his lifelong home.
He is survived by his wife Eva Mae (Seale) Brunk, whom he married August 24, 1950; two sons and daughters-in-law the Rev. Joseph Jamison and Susan Brunk of Booneville, Kentucky, and John Cortland and Mary Brunk of Dallas, Texas; four grandchildren Jonathan Matthew Brunk, Joseph Redmond Brunk, Jacob Harrison Brunk and Emma Grace Brunk; a brother and sister-in-law Douglas and Judith Brunk of Mansfield; two brothers-in-law and a sister-in-law; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother David Brunk and two sisters Paula Boyd and Sally Thompson
