Mounument. Located in Crown Hill Cemetery Indianapolis, Indiana, the Confederate Plot was established in 1931. The memorial is dedicated to the 1,616 unknown Confederate soldiers who died at Camp Morton, a Union prison on the north side of Indianapolis, during the Civil War. Between 1862 to 1865, 9,000 Confederate prisoners passed through the prison gates of Camp Morton. The Confederate Plot in Crown Hill Cemetery Indianapolis, was listed on the National Register for Historic Places in 1973. In 1993, a bronze tablet was placed on the original monument base reads: "Confederate Mound: These Confederate soldiers and sailors died at Indianapolis while prisoners of war”. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
