Lt. Barnett, who was assigned to the Louisiana Army National Guard, 1st Battalion, 156th Armor Regiment, 256th Brigade Combat Team, was on patrol on the outskirts of Baghdad in the early morning hours of Dec. 23 when he was killed by a roadside bomb. Christopher was due for promotion in May 2005, but was promoted posthumously to first lieutenant Dec. 25, 2004.

He was the first Louisiana National Guardsman killed while on duty in Iraq.

Christopher is survived by his wife, Amanda, his parents, Robert and Judy Barnett, his brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Kim Barnett, his niece, Kaleigh, and two nephews, Micah and Nathan, his uncle, Robert Robertson ,paternal grandfather, David Barnett; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, James and Josephine Robertson; and paternal grandmother, Dorothy Hunt.
