|Birth: ||Mar. 7, 1866, Germany|
|Death: ||Nov. 17, 1931|
Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at the Community church for Ulfert Rempt Schipper, who died at his home in Larchwood Tuesday morning, November 17, at the age of 65 years, 8 months and 10 days. Mr. Schipper had been in ill health for the past several months and while his death had been expected it came a a shock to his many friends.
Mr. Schipper was born in Grimsene, Germany, March 7, 1866 and lived there until he was 17 years of age, coming to the United States and settling in Grundy county, Iowa. In the spring of 1889 he started farming at Steen, Minnesota, and on October 25, 1890, he was united in marriage to Miss Tillie Margaret Flessner. They remained at Steen for 11 years and moved to Ben Clair, South Dakota, in 1890, remaining there until 1921, when they moved to Larchwood, where they have resided since.
To this union six children were born, one dying in infancy. Four sons and one daughter, besides his wife are left to mourn his loss. They are John and Henry of Sioux Falls, Jake of Valley Springs, South Dakota, Fred of Larchwood, and Mrs. Ben (Grace) Slieter JR; of Steen.
Mr. Schipper lived a simple, unassuming life, respected by his friends and neighbors and always ready to champion the cause of right. While one did not always agree with his views, that was no reason why they should not be friends. He will be missed most by those who knew him best. He was a member of the German Evangelical church and held various offices in the church.
