UNION CIVIL WAR SOLDIER.MEMBER BAT.B 5TH REG.U.S.ARTILLERY AND CO. B, 196 REG.PA.INF.VOL..

Served as Private from Sep 1861 to June 24, 1864 and also July 1864 to Nov 17, 1864, mustering out in Philadelphia.
Commander of Lafayette Post No. 217 eight times, and once Senior Vice Commander of the Department of Pennsylvania.

He was also a National Association (precursor to the National League) outfielder and pitcher. In 1875, he played for Washington Nationals and finished fourth in the league in pitcher's games finished. He also umped one game, and managed Washington for their last eight games of the year. He signed with Boston in playing the inaugural season of the National League, but struggled and his major league career ended.
