Herreid - Mass of Christian Burial for Mary Brandner, age 79, of Herreid, S.D., will be at 10:30 a.m., CDT on Friday, Oct. 28, 2005, at St. Michaels Catholic Church in Herreid, S.D. Fr. Mike Kelly will be officiating. Burial will be in the Catholic Cemetery in Herreid, S.D., under the direction of Oster Funeral Home of Mobridge, S.D. Mrs. Brandner passed away on Oct. 25, 2005, at her residence in Herreid, S.D.
Mary Brandner was born on July 29, 1926, to Simon and Johanna (Braun) Werlinger at their homestead near Hague, N.D. She attended school at a rural farm school near Hague and throughout her childhood she was very active in helping her parents with the daily farm chores. On Jan. 27, 1947, she married Clarence Brandner at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hague, N.D., and God has blessed Mary and her husband Clarence with over 58 years of marriage. They made their home in Leola, S.D., for four years and in 1955 they moved to Herreid, S.D., where they have since resided. While living in Herreid she worked for the Herreid Good Samaritan Center and at Gene's Jack and Jill.
Mary enjoyed crocheting, cooking, canning, and making her famous homemade buns. She was always very proud of her children and her grandchildren.
She had a strong love for Jesus and the Blessed Mary and she was a very devoted Catholic, with a true devotion to the Rosary and the Divine Mystery.
She is survived by her husband, Clarence Brandner of Herreid, S.D.; 13 children: Joyce (Ed) Zacher of Manhattan, Mont., David (Cindy) Brandner of Norfolk, Neb., Sandy (Pat) Jahner of Linton, N.D., Peggy (Mark) Simmons of Casa Grande, Ariz., Simon (Nila) Brandner of Norfolk, Neb., Pat Brandner of Pittsburgh, Pa., Dale Brandner and Danny Brandner of Hooker, Okla., Julie Stuhr of Aberdeen, S.D., Ruby (Rock) Larson and Bud Brandner of Sioux Falls, S.D., Mark Brandner of Anaheim Hills, Calif., and Bob (Suzy) Brandner of Worthington, Minn.; 37 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; and two sisters: Agatha Dressler of Tacoma, Wash., and Lena Gabel of Bismarck, N.D.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, four sisters, one son, Willie J. Brandner and one daughter in infancy, Silvia Brandner. Casketbearers will be her grandchildren. Readers will be Jerome Graff and Debra Vigen. Mass Servers will be Miles, Chase and Sadie Brandner. Ushers will be Rick Quashnick and Gene Schaefbauer. Organist will be Deb Schuetzle. Cantor will be Julie Brandner. Congregational hymns will be led by St. Michael's Catholic Church Choir.
