Robert Medrano entered the Army in November, 1942. He trained first at Camp Robertson, Arkansas, and then as a radio operator at the Presidio in San Francisco, and was later stationed at Fort Lewis, Washington with a radio signal company. Sgt. Medrano, a son of Mr. and Mrs. J.J. Medrano of Hanford, attended Hanford schools. His wife, Margaret, and daughter, Virginia, lived in Tacoma Washington.
Obituary
Robert Medrano, 90, a long time Hanford resident, passed away on July 01, 2011.
Robert is survived by his wife of 66 years, Margaret (Jacquez), his three daughters Carolyn Jacques, Christina Patterson, and Elizabeth Reynolds and his three sons, James Medrano, Robert Medrano Jr., and Roland Medrano. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and his brother Daniel Medrano.
He is also preceded in death by his parents Joaquin and Soledad Medrano, his sister Carmen Cardoza, and brothers Ralph and Jake.
Robert had a life that was dedicated to his family and our country, which he loved dearly. During WWII, he served as a Staff Sargent, Intercept Operator, with the 115th Signal Radio Intercept Company at Fort Lewis, Washington. He was proudest having become a naturalized citizen during his Army tour.
While working at Foremost Creamery, now known as Leprino, he maintained a twenty-acre farm growing mainly cotton, along with corn and barley. After working 33 years at the creamery he eventually retired in 1983. He started his own upholstery business "Bob's Upholstery". His upholstery shop had clients from throughout the Central Valley, and had its doors open for over 5 years.
Among his many talents, he enjoyed working with ceramics. Many of his entries to the Kings County Fair were awarded Blue ribbons. In his spare time, he also enjoyed working with paints, jewelry making, and various arts and crafts. Early on, Robert loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed taking his wife, Margaret, and their family on annual vacations, whether it was camping at Pismo Beach or taking a trip to Disneyland. His zest for life was always apparent in the way he lived each day to its fullest.
Robert was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He will be truly missed by all those who knew him. May he rest in eternal peace.
