Eugene Lopez Gaona became a member of the United States Army Infantry Forces in October, 1942. He was a private first class. Gaona was sent to the Southwest Pacific theater, and on July 17, 1944, he was killed in action in a battle against the Japanese on New Guinea. The Hanford soldier was the son of Mrs. Maria Lopez de Gaona.
