Jacob married Mary Jane Carr in 1852 at Delaware, Ohio. He served with the 145th Ohio Volunteer Infantry in the Grand Army of the Republic. He came to Ohio from Pennsylvania when he was ten years old. He farmed three miles west of Marysville until he moved into town late in life. Of the Methodist Episcopal Church.

Death Called Venerable Jacob Bowersmith to His Reward Friday Evening
The long life of Jacob Bowersmith closed Friday evening at 5:00 when he breathed his last at his home in Elmwood Ave, North Marysville. Mr Bowersmith had been ailing for a long time, but was confined to his bed only a week. He was conscious to the last and passed into eternity with the knowledge that his had been a Christian life well spent. His demi__ was caused by the infirmaties incidental to old age.
The desceased was born in the state of Pennsylvania on 1 Apr 1830 and came with his parents to Delaware Co, OH, when he was 10 years of age. While a resident of that county he was united in marriage to Jane Carr ____ sixty years ago. He came to Union county in 1870 and resided on his farm near Marysville, until he moved to this city. His wife's death occurred six years ago.
He was a member of the 145th Regiment OVI serving for a period of 100 days. He was a member of the GAR, taking an active part in the doings of the order until his health gave away. Mr Bowersmith was also a member of the M E Church and throughout his long career led an exemplary Christina life.
He is survived by the following childrne: Lou Bowersmith, of Milford, ------tor; Bainum Bowersmith, of Marion; ---- Rose, Laughrey, near Broadway; ---orn and Maud Bowersmith, of his ____; One brother, Isaac Bowersmith resides near Dublin.
The funeral service was held at the .... residence at 2:00, Sunday afternoon. The services were in charge of ....
