Margaret E. Goodson, 54, of Oklahoma City; wife of Ron Goodson; mother of Debbie Gomez of Mustang, Keith Betterton of Lawton, and Kevin and Howard Betterton, both of OKC; claims representative, 20 years, Social Security Administration.

Margaret E. Goodson always saw herself riding behind her husband on a motorcycle. And when she married her second husband, Ron Goodson, in 1992, the couple did just that, with one exception, Margaret got her own bike.

Last year, she purchased her fourth bike, a turquoise and cream 1994 Kawasaki Vulcan. We walked in the motorcycle shop to buy oil, and she walked out with a new motorcycle, said Ron.

The couple began dating in the early 1980s; Margaret was 46 before she learned how to ride and then it was a friend's dirt bike. Before too long, however, she and Ron were cruising to Yellowstone Park and Bear Tooth Pass. We'd load up the saddlebags and strap a tent and a sleeping bag on the back of the seat and take off and be gone nine, ten days, Ron recalled.

In 1993, they joined the Honda Sport Touring Association; weekends became a time to cook out with other members and to backroad tour. Still, Ron says they were happiest at home (where their biggest argument was who got to do the dishes). Basically, we were homebodies, Ron said. Together, we didn't need anything or anybody else.

Margaret's other interests were working in the yard, watching birds, and playing the piano Irish Jigs to classical tunes. She also sang while riding her Kawasaki. I'd look back, said Ron, and she'd be singing away.

Published in the Oklahoma Today magazine, Winter 1996 issue.
