Jeffrey C. Hackett
Jeffrey Clayton Hackett, 45, of Carpenter died June 5 in Cheyenne.
He was born June 28, 1964, in Torrington, to Leo and Lois Hazel (Moss) Hackett. He received his education and diploma from Torrington High School in 1982.
Jeffrey entered the U.S. Marine Corp that same year and continued to be a dedicated Marine until his retirement and rank of major with specialties in explosive ordinance disposal, with 26 years of service in February 2008.
He married Danelle Chambers on May 14, 1988, in Jacksonville, N.C. Jeffrey's career took him to 52 countries, as well as many tours including two tours in Japan, two tours in Iraq and stationed several months in Korea. Jeffrey was awarded the Bronze Star for his faithful service in Operation Iraqi Freedom. He and Danelle moved their family to Carpenter in 2006 before his retirement.
Jeffrey coached Little League, loved gardening and landscaping, the outdoors, fishing, working with his hands and NASCAR. He adored his family and found a special place in his heart for his granddaughter. He was a member of the American Legion Honor Guard.
He is survived by his wife, Danelle Hackett of Carpenter; four sons, Nick (Brandy) Hackett of Florida, Arthur Hackett of Wyoming, Drew Hackett and Veronica Shepherd and Blake Hackett and fianc Niki Fitzgerald, all of Carpenter; three sisters, Jean (George) Wilhelm of Torrington, Helen (Fred) Zag of Wisconsin Rapids, Wis., Sheila (Rod) Sterkel of Torrington; four brothers, David (Sharon) Hackett and Jerry (Jan) Hackett, all of Torrington, Tim (Pam) Hackett of Spartanburg, S.C., Rodney (Jan) Hackett of Wickenburg, Ariz.; many numerous nieces and nephews, one granddaughter Sabrina, and one granddaughter to be.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Karen; three nephews and one niece.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at River of Life Church, 1701 East F St., in Torrington with Pastor Jerry Hackett officiating. Visitation hours are from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Colyer Funeral Home Chapel. Burial with full military honors will follow the service at Valley View Cemetery.
