Civil War Confederate Soldier. This brother of James Keith Boswell enlisted on April 25, 1861 and served as a Private in Company H of the 4th Virginia Calvary - "The Black Horse Troop". This famous contingent participated in the rout of the Federal Army at First Manassas and saw frequent action in the Eastern Theater thereafter. From minor skirmishes to performing critical roles during major campaigns, the "Black Horse" cavalry had a responsibility throughout the period of the war. The Private's record extended those full four years of war with an eventual surrender on May 16, 1865 in Winchester, Virginia. In the years following the conflict, he re-located to Georgia and became a farmer.
