Obituary: Alberta "Bert" Bergeron, 100, of Baytown, peacefully departed this life Friday, July 21, 2006 at a Baytown hospital. She was born on Bayou Black, near Houma, Louisiana on March 16, 1906, one of six children born to Joseph and Elmire (Robicheaux) Boudloche. She and her family moved to the area in 1919 to work in the Pelly oil fields. After graduating from Cedar Bayou High School, she met her sweetheart Lawson Anthony Bergeron, Jr. She would become a passionate volunteer in her church, community and her children's school. As a parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church she was a member of the Alter Society for over 50 years. Additionally, she was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, Legion of Mary, and Auxiliary Member of the Knights of Columbus. For the past 19 years, she has been a resident of St. James House, where she served on the Auxiliary Board. Bert was an avid reader, who loved playing bridge and claimed to have traveled to over 60 countries and 47 states.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawson A. Bergeron, Jr., her son, L.A. Bergeron, III, sisters, Ernie Bergeron and Ollie Ellender; brothers, Son Boudloche and Lloyd Boudloche. She is survived by her daughter, Judy Bergeron Hicks and husband, Tommy of Plano, TX, sister, Lily Ocker of Baytown; grandchildren, Kim Cannon of Baytown, Debbie Mejstedt and husband, Sverker of Friendswood, TX, Katrina Hicks of Dallas, and Matthew Novosad and wife, Hope of Baytown; daughter-in-law, Carole Bergeron of Baytown, great grandchildren, Jeremy Cannon, Miranda Mejstedt, Serena Mejstedt, Chole Mejstedt, Adam Novosad and Jordon Novosad; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
There will be a rosary recited at Crespo & Jirrels Funeral Home, at 4:30 p.m., Sunday, June 23, 2006, visitation will follow from 5 to 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, June 24, 2006 at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1907 Carolina St., Rev. Dwight Canizares, celebrant. Entombment will follow at the Catacomb Mausoleum at the Garden of Gethsemane, at Forest Park Lawndale. Honoring the family as pallbearers will be Tommy Hicks, Jeremy Cannon, Russell Cannon, Matt Novosad, Mel Ocker, and Terry Bordelon. The family would like to give special thanks to the staff at St. James House and to Bert's caregivers Lucy Williams, Valerie Harewood and Petra President.
