Professional Hockey Player. For fourteen seasons (1996 to 2011), he played at the right-wing and defense positions in the National Hockey League with the Colorado Avalanche, Calgary Flames, Toronto Maple Leafs, Florida Panthers and Nashville Predators. His career began with the Saskatoon Blades junior hockey team of the Western Hockey League in 1993, prior to being chosen by the Quebec Nordiques during the 1st round (12th overall pick) of the 1994 NHL Entry Draft. After the franchise's relocation to Colorado, he marked his league debut with the Avalanche during the 1996-1997 season, appearing in 5 games. In the course of his career, Belak earned the reputation as an enforcer whose tough physical presence was recognizable throughout the NHL. In 549 regular season games, he recorded 8 goals with 25 assists. He was found dead in his Toronto home. (bio by: C.S.)
