Professional Hockey Player. For six seasons (2005 until his death), he played at the center position in the National Hockey League with the Vancouver Canucks. Rypien began his career with the Regina Pats junior hockey team of the Western Hockey Association (2001 to 2005) and played two years (2005 to 2006) with the Manitoba Moose of the American Hockey League, before marking his debut in the NHL during the 2005-2006 season. He appeared in 9 games with the 2010-2011 Canucks' squad that went on to appear in the Stanley Cup Finals. Rypien who earned the reputation as a bruiser in the league, struggled with personal issues off the ice and took a leave of absence from the team during that year. In 119 regular season games, he recorded 9 goals with 7 assists. At the time of his death, he was a member of the Winnipeg Jets whom he signed with as a free agent in July 2011. (bio by: C.S.)
