SAMUEL ROSE, 89, CLERGYMAN, DIES AT REED HOME
Served in N.E. Congregational Parishes 30 Years Before Retiring
Greenfield, May 28 - Rev. Samuel Rose, 89, a retired Congregational minister of 60 Pierce St., died last night at the Reed convalescent home in Shelburne Falls following an illness of several years.
He was born Dec. 6, 1860 in Trowbridge, Eng., the son of John and Rachel Boers Rose and came to this country at the age of 10. He was graduated from Kimball Union Academy in Meriden, N.H. and attended Dartmouth College and Hartford Theological Seminary.
Had N.E. Parishes
For several years he had parishes in the South and also in the Far West. For 30 years he was a congregational minister in New England with parishes in Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Vermont. His most recent pastorate was at the Mary Lyon Church in Buckland from which he retired in 1924.
He leaves a daughter, Miss Elizabeth Joy Rose with whom he made his home; two sons, Rev. Dr. Philip M. Rose, of Glastonbury, Conn. and Col. Edward C Rose of Alexandria, Va.; three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. His wife, the former Grace M Chamberlin, died in 1946.
A private funeral will take place at the Smith funeral home on Federal St. Monday at 3 p.m. Rev. Dr. Kenneth R Henley, minister of the Second Congregational Church, will officiate and burial will be in Green River Cemetery.
