BROKATE, WILLIAM R. - killed in action
Private William Brokate, 19, who had been reported missing in Germany since March 3, 1945, was killed in action on that date, the war department notified his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Brokate, Sr., Tuesday. He was with the seventh army. Private Brokate's last letter was dated February 22. He entered the army 9-2-1944, and trained at Camp Hood, TX. He was home on furlough New Year's and went overseas January 18. He was born 7-25-1925, near Anchor and attended school in Sibley. Surviving are his parents; four sisters, Mrs. Eileen Schuette, Guthrie; Dorothy, Betty Mae and Wilma, at home; three brothers, Merle, Lloyd and Donald, all at home; three nieces; his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. R.C. Borchers, Gibson City, and his paternal grandfather, William Brokate, Cincinnati, Ohio.
