Mrs. Bolding was born in Pickens County on January 4, 1922 to John Wesley and Nita Dodd Garrett. She attended Furman University and Greenville General Nursing School. She attained the title of R.N. and was employed as the Pickens County Supervisor Public Health Nurse. She also was a member of Pickens First Baptist Church and a camp nurse at McCall's R.A. camp for 14 years.
People are often surprised to learn that Ruth was stationed at Stanford University in Connecticut as a top female degree officer in World War II. She also was, at one time, President of the S.C. Public Health Nursing Association.
Ruth's hobbies and interests included reading, water skiing, sewing and spending time with her grandchildren. Her friends would describe her as always being there to offer a helping hand.
Surving are one daughter, Sherry B. Krzyzaniak and her husband, Walt, of Charleston; two sons, J. Wesley Bolding and his wife Diane, of Easley and Robert McDuffie "Mac" Bolding and his wife Yvonne, of Pickens; five grandchildren, Syd Suler and his wife Sue, Megan Bolding, Emily B. Simmons and her husband Jeremy, John Bolding and Sarah Boldin; one sister, Salone Bowen of Westminster.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by two sisters, Florence Stewart and Nita Rhodes; and three brothers, Tom, J.B. and Haskell Garrett.
